THEMED STUDIES: August 2025

August

Theme for the Month: Back to School
Encouragement & Suggestions

Week 1

Gathering with Other Homeschool Mommas
It’s so special when we get to spend time with other homeschool moms, that is why our Coffee and Chat is such a special part of the month! But this month the Cultivate: Motherhood + Home Education team is hosting their annual conference right here in Lake Charles, and it’s always such a special time! We can’t wait to hear from Cindy Rollins this year!

Opportunities to gather with other moms this week:
Coffee + Chat (Members Only) – August 1

Cultivate: Motherhood + Home Education Conference – August 9

Week 2

Gathering with Other Homeschool Kiddos
One of the trickiest situations with homeschooling might just be how to find time for your kids to hang with other kids their own age. There are many options, but here are a few:

1) Church events

2) Sports/activities (ballet, jiu-jitsu, gymnastics, baseball, basketball, soccer, and all the sports!)

3) Sulphur’s public library is hosting a “Homeschool Social Club” on Friday, August 29 from 10:00am – 12:00pm. I am not sure how often they will host it, but this sounds so fun! Hopefully some of the other local libraries start this as well!

4) Field trips and gatherings with Homeschool SWLA – you and your kiddos can come hang with us at the Children’s Museum Meetup coming up on August 15 from 10:00am – 12:00pm. This is an unofficial homeschool family meetup. We aren’t officially booking anything as a group, but you and your family are welcome to meet us there!

Week 4

Make Memories, Document Your Memories

While you are schooling don’t forget to document your memories! Find a spare notebook (or get a cute new one) and write a little something from each day that was fun, or hard, or worth remembering. We are teaching our children, but we learn so much through homeschooling too!

If you get stuck in a rut, this is your invitation to stop and make some time to do something fun together! Do school in a new place (we like to have Starbucks school or bring all our school to the park!), invite a grandparent over to read a special story to everyone, or have a picnic (if it’s raining, too hot or you just don’t like bugs, have one inside!). If you’d like to have a break, but your brain says the kids still “need to learn”, put on a documentary and pop some popcorn!

Share your activities and outings with us on social media!
Tag @homeschoolswla or use the hashtag #homeschoolswla in your photos so we can see what fun memories you are making with your family this month.
